I’m Ken, a retiree in my mid-sixties. I had a great career working in education. I’ve been married over 40 years and have plenty of children and grandchildren to keep me busy.
I’ve been active all my life but the activities I’ve participated in have changed over the years. As my knee function has decreased, and the pain increased, I have made significant changes in my daily activities.
At this stage in my life, I enjoy hiking, biking, swimming, and pickleball. I am also an avid reader and gardener.
I created this blog to fill a need on the Internet. Over the years I’ve done a lot of reading and searching the Internet regarding knee replacement preparation, surgery, and recovery.
There’s a lot of great information from doctors and health professionals, however, the information I found on personal experience was limited.
I’m sure there are many other people that are contemplating total knee replacement (TKR) that would like to learn from others who had successes, failures, and experiences preparing for and recovering from surgery.
I recently moved into a community with several people who underwent TKR and hip replacement. Many of my neighbors who had TKR are active well into their 70’s and 80’s. They hike, swim, and play tennis, bocce, and pickleball.
I have been fortunate to pick their brains and learn from their experiences about knee replacement. I’ve put off TKR for over 15 years.
Thanks to the success stories I’ve seen and heard I finally made the decision to have knee surgery myself.
In this blog, I share my personal information about my knee injuries, living with pain, the road to knee replacement surgery, and my recovery. I underwent TKR surgery with the medical professionals from Dignity Health.
I share x-rays, exercise routines, surgery preparation, and recovery as well as my concerns, doubts, what worked, and what didn’t.
As I continue rehabilitation, I plan to write about my progress so that others can learn and benefit from my experience. You can also check out my YouTube channel where I share helpful videos and my Pinterest page.
I recently completed a knee replacement eBook that consolidates much of the information I have on my blog.
I’d like to thank you for reading my blog and it’s my hope that your decision to have or not have knee replacement surgery is aided by the experience and knowledge that I share.
TKR is a life-changing decision and the more you’re prepared the greater the chance for success.
